Truecaller Appoints Three Sri Lankan Ambassadors

November 05, 2014

Truecaller, an app that helps people take the right call, which announced its foray in to Sri Lanka recently, has appointed three ambassadors in the country.

The newly appointed Brand Ambassadors from Sri Lanka include philanthropists Hamza Alibhoy, Juzer Kaed and Avishka Mendis. Truecaller is a Swedish company that has currently 85 million users across the world and growing. Truecaller adds more smart features to your phonebook; so you can search beyond your existing contacts. It is a huge opportunity for Truecaller to further extend this service to millions of users across Sri Lanka.

Truecaller’s Brand Ambassador Program (www.truecaller.com/ambassadors), otherwise known as the ‘Truecrew,’ is a global community of selected Truecaller ‘super-users’ who volunteer to share their knowledge, time and social media expertise to show others how Truecaller can help in everyone's daily lives. Truecrew Brand Ambassadors help users get more out of the Truecaller app, and Truecaller helps support the brand ambassadors by providing experience in marketing, expanding their network, and teaching about technology. The Sri Lankan Truecrew has also contributed and shown their represented Truecaller in many other ways by being involved in social welfare events and activities.

“Our brand ambassadors represent the voices of the users. The Truecaller Team creates an app for the benefit of the people, and what better way to engage than to have the biggest Truecaller fans on board working with the team!” says Lindsey LaMont, head of Brand Ambassador Relations at Truecaller.

"Ambassadors, I believe, play an important role in creating awareness about Truecaller among people and educating them on the ways in which the app functions and how it will be beneficial to them, “says Kaed, Alibhoy, and Mendis. “Above all however, it is important to listen to what people are saying about the app and what they want to see in the app as it provides valuable feedback in developing customized features for the Sri Lankan market and improving the app in general".

The biggest reason for Truecaller’s rapid growth, is that the app solves a major pain point for mobile users in the form of eliminating spam calls and instantly identifying who is calling. Truecaller currently has over 28,000 Sri Lankan spam callers reported within the app (and growing), which all users are instantly protected from after downloading. The app blocks and identifies over 7 million spam calls a day, on a global scale. Truecaller can act as Sri Lankan’s personal assistant by telling them who is calling so they can decide whether they want to answer the phone or not.

Truecaller can be downloaded for free in Sinhala, Tamil, English and many other languages as a smartphone app on iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8, BlackBerry (7 & 10), Symbian S60 and Series 40.
