
Sri Lanka celebrated the third Anniversary of triumph over Tamil Eelam war which had been dragged for more than 30 years destructing each and everything in the Northern part of the island built up by nation and the country. A prideful ceremony was held in Galle Face Green in Colombo on 19th under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa observing two minutes silence at the commencement of the victory event to remember over 24,000 Security Forces who made the supreme sacrifices for the sake of country, its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
President who was accorded by 21 gun salutes after receiving the State guard of honor awarded “Parama Weera Vibhushanaya’ gallantry awards to 15 valiant war heroes. They were presented to the Next of kin of war heroes’ families.
The ‘Parama Weera Vibhushanay’ is the highest gallantry award that is being awarded to a military patriot whose conduct in the face of enemy had been beyond the extremes of expectations that made him to make supreme sacrifice towards the nation.
The 3rd Victory Day parade began with march past by ground troops of armed forces, police and Civil Defence Force along with sail past by Sri Lanka Navy and fly past by Sri Lanka Air Force commanded by Maj. Gen. J.C. Rambukpotha.
A special war hero commemoration was held near ‘War Heroes’ Monument’ near Parliamentary Complex at Sri Jayewardenepura on the same day evening with the participation of President, Ministers and parliamentarians. President held a special flower offering puja for war heroes while kiths and kins of war heroes held a special lamp lighting ceremony.
