Sri Lanka Norwegian Ambassador, Hilde Haraldstad says that in the 21 century ,the threats to the human beings are projected from climatic changes.
A project was introduced to restore the coastal urban areas that had been adverly affected by climatic changes. The Norwegian Ambassador appreciated the participation of government and the environment ministry with Norway government to implement the project.
On the instructions of Environment Ministry, Norwegian Institute NIVA, University of Moratuwa, United Nations Agency for Human Settlements Providing Adequate Shelter For All (UN-HABITAT) program, Negombo Municipal Council and Municipal Council of Batticaloa are to carry our the work of the said project. The cost of the project was estimated at Euro 600.000.
The aim of the Project is to protect the coastal urban areas in Negombo and Batticaloa that are subjected to sea level rise, floods, storms and drinking water issues due to the adverse effects of climatic changes.
Norwegian Ambassador thus expressed her views at the inauguration session held for introduction of effective plan implemented for restoration of coastal urban areas affected by climatic changes, on Friday (04) in Hotel Galadari, Colombo.
