President Mahinda Rajapaksa and visiting Japanese Deputy Prime Minister Katsuya Okada visited 150 MW Upper Kotmale Hydro Power Project (UKHPP) today.
Power and Energy Minister who was also present at the occasion said 96% of UKHPP is completed and 150 MW of electricity would be added to the national power grid in June this year.
The power project commenced its work in 2006 with Japanese financial assistance of Yen 37,817 billion along with CEB funds Rs.8,548 million with Sri Lanka’s longest ever tunnel (12.9 km) was declared open by President Rajapaksa in 2010.
Japanese visiting deputy inspected several other Japanese funded development projects in Sri Lanka during his two day official visit.
