Government has commenced a programme to provide a glass of milk to school children and teachers in Nuwara Eliya District. It was officially initiated on Monday at Good Shepherd Convent, Nuwara Eliya which is having 1,406 students at present.
According to Government sources 10,000 Liters of milk will be used for daily distribution in Nuwara Eliya District. Under the programme 156,405 children and 8.981 teachers in 523 schools will receive a glass of milk.
Fresh milk production in Nuwara Eliya has been increased with Govt. aids and subsidies for liquid milk farmers and a free glass of mill project was implemented in the area as a result of high production in liquid milk.
