Defence Secretary, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa says re-deployment of army personnel to Northern and Eastern provinces with the conclusion of conflict had brought down.
In line with the re-deployment plans, the number of fighting battalions and support services along with High Security Zones in Jaffna Peninsula had been decreased drastically, the Defence Secretary said.
Challenging those who complain of heavy military presence in Jaffna Peninsula, the Defence Secretary requested to examine the situation in other districts with regard to troop presence as the largest concentration of army is now in Anuradhapura district.
Accordingly, those who have cited the heavy army presence in Jaffna Peninsula is an obstacle to national reconciliation would no longer be able to propagate the lie, Defence Secretary said.
