Three wheelers not licensed to transport tourists by Sri Lanka Tourism Authority are banned to transport tourists as a training has been provided to three wheeler drivers selected to serve tourists.
The drivers who have completed four-day training by Authority have issued a certificate and permission to transport tourists and that only such taxi drivers could transport foreigners.
Since tourists have lodged several complaints over three wheeler drivers and their services, Sri Lanka Tourism development Authority has taken prompt action to issue permits to eligible trishaw drivers to transport tourists.
In the meantime, government is making plans to regulate three wheeler taxis in country and a Regulation Bureau is to be set up soon to safeguard passengers and also to address the issues such as overcharging, bogus taxi meters and exorbitant charges etc.
