His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa has appointed Hon. Sarath Palitha Fernando, President's Counsel (PC) as the new Attorney General, Government Information sources said today.The Parliamentary Council granted the approval on 12th of July to appoint Hon. Palitha Fernando as the new Attorney General.
Hon. Palitha Fernando was appointed as the Acting Attorney General on 06th July following the appointment of former AG Eva Wanasunadara as a Supreme Court Judge.
Rear Admiral Palitha Fernando is a graduate of International Commercial Law from University of Bristol and has joined Attorney General’s Department as a State Counsel and later became the Senior State Counsel, Deputy Solicitor General, Addl. Solicitor General, Solicitor General then Acting Attorney General and finally Attorney General.
