The Romanian Government has given the green light to invest on local bio-diesel project with an initial investment of Rs.600 million in Anuradhapura district with a view to address the energy crisis.
India, Philippine and Romania have turned the attention on bio-diesel production using indigenous plant material available in respective countries.
Project which is to be initiated in Sri Lanka with the assistance of Romanian Technical experts will use Enderu (Castor -oil plant) seed oil as raw material to produce bio fuel, Minister of Agrarian Services and Wildlife S.M. Chandrasena said.
Around 20,000 farmers were already provided with financial assistance via local commercial banks to grow Jatropha (enderu) which could be grown in any party of the country.
