Minister of Postal Services Jeewean Kumaratunge says no decision has been made as yet to increase the postal charges and denied the recent reports published over the due rise in charges as a final decision has not been arrived so far.
If a revision of charges are to be made, the recommendations of the Committee appointed for the task, has to be referred to the Cabinet and placed before Parliament and said that during elections such propagandas are being carried out to cause an inconvenience to the Government.
The World’s lowest postal charges are applicable only in Sri Lanka in comparison to the other countries and pointed out that Financial Control Institute has proposed to increase postal charges in order to meet the high costs.
