  • PDF

altMinistry of Health requests  consumers to pay attention when purchasing green leaves, ‘mugunuwenna’ as information have been received on a  poisonous plant being sold as ‘mukunuwanna’ in the market place.

The plant is called as ‘mal mugunuwanna’  or Alligator Weed or Alternanthera Philoxeroides (Mart) Griseb, native along coast of South America, is one of the worst invasive species in the world.

Since this plant  has the capability to absorb heavy metals,  long term consumption of weed could damage internal organs of the body and  the risk of  cancer as well.
