
The inaugural ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, which is also known as London 2012 will begins in London, United Kingdom today (27). The first event took place in women’s football, was won by U.S women’s football team beating France played on 25th July, two days before of the opening ceremony on Friday.
There will be over 10,000 athletics from 204 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) at 200 hectare Olympic Park in the east London to compete in 26 sports. London will become the first city to host officially the modern Olympic Games three times including the previously hosted Olympic Games in 1908 and 1948. The world’s biggest sports event of 2012 will start from 27 July and continue until 12 August 2012.
There will be seven athletes participating from Sri Lanka in the events of Athletics, badminton, Shooting and Swimming.
