Sri Lankan Navy has arrested 34 Indian fishermen for fishing in Lankan waters off 3 nautical miles, West of Delft Island.
A Navy patrol craft attached to Northern Naval Command has arrested them with 5 Indian trawlers and later they were escorted to Delft Island and handed over to Delft Police for legal action.
They are to be produced before Kaits Magistrate’s Court today (15)and Delft police is conducting further investigations.
Sri Lanka Navy on Wednesday had arrested 19 Indian fishermen and seized their 4 trawlers for illegally fishing in Lankan waters north of Thalaimannar.
Indian fishermen, mainly from Tamil Nadu illegally poaching in Lankan waters with their trawlers in a massive scale depriving the livelihood of Sri Lankan fishermen.
