Yemen's army was able to regain the under control of Shaqra on Friday (15) which was the last stronghold territory in Abyan province seized by al-Qaida militants more than a year ago, officials said.
During the clashes to recapture Shaqra, at least 17 al-Qaida militants were killed on Friday and government army is ongoing with their missions in the nearby province of Shabwa to retake Azzan which is al-Qaida’s last territory.
Within this week military is focusing to regain the control of Azzan which is the last hope and last town for al-Qaida in Shabwa province, Yemen's Defence Minister, Major General Muhammad Nasir Ahmad, said.
