The National Transitional Council (NTC) has passed over the power to a national assembly, which was elected in July. The National Transitional Council is a political arm that ousted Gaddafi in last year.
The handing over ceremony is the first peaceful transition of power in the modern history of Libya. The 200-member congress will appoint a prime Minister making responsible of establishing a government while leading the country to full parliamentary elections.
The transition was ended peacefully despite the fears of violent incidents that took place last week including the attacks that targeted military and a former intelligence building in the capital Tripoli and Benghazi.
