Mentally Challenged Rape Survivor Waits For Tests For Hours In Semi-Nude State

A 22-year-old rape survivor was allegedly made to wait for hours in a semi-nude state for medical tests at a hospital in Karnataka.

The woman, who is physically and mentally challenged, was allegedly raped on Friday by her neighbor in Varuna in Mysore district, which is Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's constituency.

Police say the traumatised woman was initially scared to go through medical tests. She was reportedly left on a bed for hours, semi-nude.

The accused has been arrested. The police are investigating why the woman had to wait for such a long time at the hospital.

The state Women's Commission looked into the incident and reportedly summoned the doctor, who claimed that the hospital lacks proper facilities for examining rape victims.

The incident comes in the middle of outrage in the state over the alleged rape of a 6-year-old girl in an elite Bangalore school on July 2, allegedly by two staff members. One of the attackers, a skating instructor, has been arrested.

Mr Siddaramaiah has drawn criticism for allegedly insensitive remarks. When queried on the child's rape case by a journalist yesterday, he had snapped back, "Is this the only news? Is there no other news?"
