Tug Of War Between National Intelligence Service And AG Dept Over Eknaligoda Case

December 21, 2015

A tug of war has occurred between top-brass members of the National Intelligence service and the Attorney General's Department over the Habeas Corpus case in connection with Prageeth Eknaligoda's disappearance.

It is learnt that some senior members of the National Intelligence service are attempting to secure bail for suspects who have been remanded over the journalist's disappearance.

The large majority of suspects who have been remanded over the journalist's disappearance are members of the Army intelligence unit.

When the case was taken up for hearing before the Homagama Magistrate last week, Senior State Counsel Dilip Peiris who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General's Department, opposed any move to grant bail for the suspects.

There are reports claiming that top brass members of the national intelligence service are now pushing for the removal of the Senior State Counsel from the Prageeth Eknaligoda case.

The National Intelligence service is currently headed by Senior DIG Sisira Mendis.
