Maithri - MR Talks Hit A Snag: Future Discussions Cancelled Until Further Notice

Meetings between President Maithripala Sirisena and former president Mahinda Rajapaksa have been cancelled until further notice as the President refused to accommodate Rajapaksa as the Prime Ministerial candidate of the UPFA, highly placed political sources told Asian Mirror.

Although the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Central Committee is to be briefed on the discussions that took place on Wednesday (6), it is widely speculated that the talks will not proceed hereafter.

The split between the Sirisena camp and the Rajapaksa camp is rapidly dividing the SLFP. UPFA MP Vidura Wickramanayake recently said that he will quit politics if the two sides cannot work together.
