Sri Lankan vernacular newspaper 'Divaina' made a glaring blunder and has named "John Doe" as the whistle-blower who revealed the Panama Papers to the media.
The local newspaper published this in a news item, apparently quoting an editor of a German newspaper. The story has been written by a journalist named Keerthi Warnakulasooriya.
However, it is common knowledge that "John Doe" is a name used to refer to a person who is unknown or cannot be mentioned by name. Scathing attacks were launched on social media platforms against the vernacular newspaper's poor insight and lack of journalistic discipline.
