No Confidence Motion Defeated By Two Thirds Majority

No confidence motion presented against the government by the United National Party was defeated in Parliament by a two thirds majority, a short while ago.

The motion, which was taken for debate in the house yesterday and today, was based on recent drug scandals involving the names of some top level politicians in the government.

151 MPs representing the government voted against the no confidence motion while 57 MPs voted against it. Two major constituent parties of the government - JHU and NFF - were not present in Parliament when the vote was taken. Opposition political parties voted in favour of the motion.

The ruling party strictly instructed all its members to be present in the house during the vote on the no confidence motion.
