Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has ordered to transfer Royal College Principal Upali Gunasekera with immediate effect, highly placed ministry sources told Asian Mirror.

They added that the minister had made the decision after the Ministry received various complaints over the conduct of the Principal.

The Education Ministry, they said, would probe into the allegations leveled against the Principal.

Before assuming duties as the Principal of Royal College, Colombo, the most prestigious boys' school in the country, Gunasekera served as the Principal of Isipathana College for six years. 

He served as the Principal of Royal College for over 12 years. Ministry sources said an acting Principal would be appointed to run the administration of the school until the appointment of a new Principal.
