Ranatunga To Lodge Complaint With HRC Over Sri Lanka Cricket Election

February 08, 2016

Minister of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranatunga is expected to file a complaint with the Human Rights Commission over the Sri Lanka Cricket Election held on January 3.

Ranatunga contested for the post of Vice President of SLC. He managed to poll only 80 votes and could not get elected. Jayantha Dharmadasa and K Mathivanan were elected with 102 and 90 votes respectively.

Ranatunga hit out at SLC President-elect Thilanga Sumathipala, saying that that the game of cricket has fallen under the control of a 'business-mafia'.

Sumathipala responded on the following day, leveling several allegations against Ranatunga. Sumathipala also vowed legal action.

Ranatunga responded several days later, refuting all allegations and reiterating his position that the game of cricket had fallen under the control of a 'business-mafia'. On January 28, he sent a letter of demand to Sumathipala.
