Permission Sought To Commemorate LTTE 'Mahaviru Day'

Public Representations Committee on Constitutional Reforms received a proposal seeking legal permission for the commemoration of the dead LTTE soldiers on 'Mahaviru Day'.

The proposal was presented before the committee yesterday at the Jaffna District Secretariat by a resident of Sulipuram, Jaffna East.

Chairman of the committee, Lal Wijenayake said that the commission was accepting public views and comments on new constitution at Jaffna, today as well.

In addition, he stated that a special committee, headed by Northern Province Chief Minister C. V. Wigneswaran, has also been appointed, to push for people’s rights in Northern Province. Their opinions and suggestions would be considered regarding the matter as well, Wijenayake said.
