Sri Lankan Embassy Worker Dies In Russia After Brawl: Second Secretary Injured!

A staff member of Sri Lankan Embassy in Russia has died while another has been injured in a brawl with two Russians in the Southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don.

According to the channel Lifenews, a clerk at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Russia, who arrived in the city of Rostov for the "Days of Sri Lanka in Russia" program died after a car ran over him. Meanwhile the Second Secretary of the Embassy has reportedly been hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon on the street in the backyard of Suvorov Hotel Don Plaza. Two drivers of the vehicle they hired demanded additional service fees from the diplomats, resulting in a street brawl. A driver had shot the Second Secretary and then they had tried to flee in the car. The other staff member had been run over when the car tried to speed off.

Several hours later, both drivers were arrested, says RIA "Novosti". The suspects are being questioned at the moment.

The External Affairs Ministry of Sri Lanka has not yet made any statement in this regard.
