All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) issuing a special statementhas requested Muslims across the country to remain calm. 

ACJU yesterday requested the Police to prevent the protest organized by the Bodu Bala Sena as it could lead to violent incidents. Despite such requests, the Police allowed the BBS to stage a protest in the Aluthgama town this afternoon.

It also requests all parties, including media, to act in a responsible manner to avoid further deterioration of the incident. 

Although Police curfews have been imposed in Aluthgama and Beruwala, the situation is yet to be brought under control. Police have urged people in the area to remain in their houses and assist Police in maintaining law and order. 

Unconfirmed reports coming from Aluthgama said at least 10 shops have been damaged due to clashes in the area. However, the Police Media Unit did not issue any statement over the matter. 

Meanwhile, the Police Special Task Force (STF), has now been deployed in Aluthgama to stop ongoing incidents.
