Harin Apologises To Citizens For Using Unparliamentary Language In House

Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure Minister Harin Fernando apologised to the country's citizens for using indecent words in Parliament during the debate over SriLAnkan Airlines.

There were allegations that Fernando used unparliamentary language to interrupt UPFA MP Mahindanda Aluthgamage while the latter was speaking during the debate.

In a video footage released to social media, Fernando accepted responsibility for the incident, saying he would accept any punishment for committing the offence.

The Minister further said the situation occurred due to the 'heat' of the moment. He also accused the MPs of the Joint Opposition for disrupting the affairs of the legislation.

Fernando added various elements were attempting to sling mud on him, cashing in on this situation.

In his statement, he said he gave a statement to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya over the matter. However, there was no video footage to prove the allegation against the UNP Minister.

Speaker Jayasuriya is yet to take action against the Minister over the incident.
