Rohitha Abeygunawardena Released On Strict Bail Conditions In Corruption Case

Former Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena was released on bail by Colombo High Court Judge Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne in a corruption case filed by the Bribery Commission.

He was released on a cash bail of Rs 100,000 and four sureties of Rs 10 million each.

His passport was also impounded. However, the court allowed him to visit Japan between June 6 and 22 after he informed that he was required to visit that country in that period.

The Bribery Commission filed indictment this January against UPFA MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena at Colombo High Court for illegal acquisition of property worth Rs 41.2 million.

The said acquisition has allegedly taken place between 2004 and 2006.
