Duminda Silva Refuses To Plead Guilty In Corruption Cases

Former UPFA MP Duminda Silva, through his lawyers, informed Colombo Magistrate Courts that he was not pleading guilty for the charges in three corruption cases as planned earlier.

The Bribery Commission filed three cases against him for not declaring assets and liabilities for 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Silva's lawyers today said that he was willing to plead guilty if the court would impose only a fine. According to the legal provisions, the court can impose a fine of Rs 1000 and a prison term of one year for each case against him.

Since the court did not respond to the request, Silva's lawyers asked the cases to be proceeded.

The next inquiry was fixed for July 26.
