JVP Will Take Up Arms Again If Banned: Provincial Councilor

If prescribed, the JVP will definitely take up arms again, Southern Provincial Councilor Nalin Hewage said.

This was stated during a heated debate between Hewage and several councilors of the UPFA.

Hewage claimed that the former government obtained loans which have not been properly recorded, which led to the heated debate.

Provincial Minister Weerasumana Weerasinghe blamed the JVP for destroying public property during the 1987-89 insurrection and claimed that the JVP was now speaking as if they have forgotten the past.

In response Hewage said that the JVP will take up arms again if prescribed.

Following independence, the country was ruled by four elite families and they see the people as servants, he claimed. No ruler is serving the people, he charged.
