Rs 50 Million Public Money Spent For One Minister Monthly, Says Anura Dissanayake

JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake hit out at the government for its excessive expenditure, alleging that the government spends an average of Rs 50 million for one Minister each month.

These include the Cabinet Ministers, State Ministers and the Deputy Ministers, he said.

Speaking at a meeting in Kurunegala District yesterday, he said that the government added a provision to increase the number of Ministries to grant more perks to the politicians of both parties.

According to the 19th Amendment, there can be only 30 Cabinet Ministers. However, the main parties introduced an amendment so that they could increase the number of ministries, he recalled.

Dissanayake also hit out at Minister of Agriculture Duminda Dissanayake and Minister of Regional Development Sarath Fonseka for excessive spending for renting offices. Duminda Dissanayake rented an office for Rs 500 million per month and it is not even used. Fonseka rented an office for Rs 130 million per month, Anura Dissanayake claimed.
