BBS Wants Immediate Removal Of Hakeem

The Bodu Bala Sena organization today demanded the President to remove Minister of Justice Rauff Hakeem not only from his position, but also from the government.

Addressing a press conference at the BBS headquarters in Kirulapona today, BBS General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera said if the President did not act fast, the government would lose the support of Sinhala-Buddhists at the next election.

"Not only the Sinhala-Buddhists, but also the Tamils and Muslims will go against the government," Gnanasara Thera said.

The BBS General Secretary made this remark on the grounds that the Minister of Justice was making statements that were "damaging" to Buddhists monks.

He lashed out at the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress for creating religious disharmony in the country.

Earlier, the BBS General Secretary told the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) that they should question the Minister of Justice over violent clashes that took place in Beruwala, Aluthgama and Dharga Town. He alleged that Hakeem was instrumental in inciting violence in Aluthgama.

Subsequently, the CID questioned Justice Minister Rauff Hakeem and recorded a statement from him over the incident.
