13 Indian Fishermen Detained By Sri Lankan Navy

Reports coming in live from India state that 13 Indian fishermen along with three mechanized boats were apprehended by the Sri Lankan navy yesterday for fishing in Sri Lankan waters

Indian media state that the 13 fishermen are being detained in the holding facility in the Thalaimannar naval station.

They were apprehended in mid sea along with three mechanized boats which were also impounded by the navy. Indian reports state that the fishermen were from Rameswaram area.

A fishermen association leader in India has said to Indian media that the Sri Lankan navy detained 36 fishermen of Pudukottai and Rameswaram and released Pudukottai men along with five boats after conducting an inquiry with them. However, the status of 13 Rameswaram fishermen was not known so far.

Along with them the navy recently arrested three Dhanushkodi fishermen who were allegedly carrying 70kilos of Ganja with them.

The Sri Lankan government is yet to make a statement regarding their release.
