18 Indian Fishermen Lodged In Anuradhapura Prison

Sri Lankan navy state that 18 Indian fishermen out of the 38 who were arrested by the Sri Lankan navy for crossing the country’s border yesterday have been lodge in Anuradhapura prison.

The 38 fishermen were arrested along with nine vessels by the Sri Lankan navy yesterday morning and were held in a naval base till the trial.

After being tried in front of The Judicial Magistrate at Talaimannar, the verdict demanded 20 fishermen to be remanded to judicial custody till August 1.

A fishermen organization chief has told to Indian media that the remaining 18 were lodged in Anuradhapura prison.

All the fishermen are from villages in Rameswaram and Pudukottai and the impounded vessels have been moved to a navy holding facility.
