Parliament convened this morning, on the orders of President Maithripala Sirisena, to debate the Meethotamulla disaster.

On April 26, President Sirisena called for an emergency session of Parliament on Friday (today) to discuss the Meethotamulla disaster.

The President is expected to take up for debate waste disposal and disposal and management, in addition to relief measures for Meethotamulla evacuees.

He is also expected to seek Parliementary approval for the gazette notification he issued on April 20th, listing solid waste management as an essential service.
