Arundika Fernando Grilled By FCID Over Meeting With Udayanga Weerathunga

Deputy Minister of Tourism Development and Christian Religious Affairs Arundika Fernando was summoned before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) today to make a statement relating to his meeting with former ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weerathunga in Japan.

Deputy Minister Arunindika Fernando had posted pictures of himself with the former Ambassador to Russia against whom there is a warrant out for arrest.

The Deputy Minister's visit to Japan coincided with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's visit to the same country.

On October 20 last year, the Colombo Fort Magistrate issued a warrant through the Interpol for the arrest of Udayanga Weeratunga, a first cousin of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa over alleged financial fraud taken place while procuring seven MiG-27 helicopters for the Sri Lanka Air Force.
