'Ravi Was Summoned Before Commission As His Name Linked to Crucial Evidence' - Chithrasiri

Former Supreme Court Judge K.T.  Chithrasiri said the Commission decided to summon Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake as his name was mentioned in the evidence given by a witness.

Chithrasiri, a member of the three member commission, made this remark during the sessions of the Treasury bonds commission yesterday.

Karunanayake's lawyer, Rienzie Arsakularatne informed the members that his client could only appear before the Commission on August 02.

It was revealed before the Commission earlier this week that businessman Arjuna Aloysius paid for an apartment rented by Karunanayake and his family in 2016.

The revelation was made by Anik Wijesuriya, the daughter of famous businessman Nihil Wijesuriya, in her evidence.

Karunanayake functioned as the Minister of Finance at the time the bond controversy took place.
