Three Police Teams Investigating Death Of Key Witness Of UPFA Politico's Trial

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in North Western Province has appointed three police teams under to investigate the mysterious death of a witness of the trial against a former UPFA Provincial Council Member.

The deceased is Rajakaruna Herath Mudiyanselage Punyasoma Bandara, a 55 year old resident of Hospital Road, Nawagaththegama. He was a father of two.

He was the fourth witness of the trial of Ananda Sarath Kumara, a former UPFA North Western Provincial Council Member, who had forced a teacher at Nawagaththegama Navodya School to kneel down in the school premises following a disciplinary action she had taken against the daughter of the PC Member.

When delivering the judgment, Puttalam High Court Judge Priyantha Fernando had stated that the witness of the diseased person made a significant impact in the case against Ananda Sarath Kumara.

The diseased person has been missing for a few days until his body was found in a well in the backyard of his land.

Even though the well had about 9 feet of water, the lungs of the diseased were not filled with water, suggesting that he had not died by drowning. Meanwhile, he had usually hung the keys to his house from his neck as a precaution since he was frequently suffering from epileptic seizures.

The diseased had received a sum of Rs 338,000 as compensation to a land lost to the Inginimitiya Reservoir. There is some suspicion on what happened to some of this money.

The three police teams investigating the death are being led by the Assistant Superintends of Police of Puttalam, Anamaduwa and Nikaweratiya.
