India To Summon SL High Commissioner Over Derogatory Article On Jayalalithaa

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today said that the Indian Government will summon the Sri Lankan High Commissioner over a derogatory article mentioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Jayaram.

The Indian External Minister said that the Indian Government strongly condemn this act and that they demand proper action taken against the responsible.

Swaraj further noted that the Indian Government has decided to summon the Sri Lankan High Commissioner in India to discuss regarding the matter.

“We will certainly summon the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka and convey this to him,” the minister said.

The controversial article appeared on the Sri Lankan Defence website with a photo of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Jayaram writing a letter and a photo of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi displayed on a ‘heart shaped’ thought bubble over her head.

After the Ministers of Tamil Nadu ministers lodged a massive complaint and protests erupted in Tamil Nadu, the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence took down the article and tendered an apology to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and to the Prime Minister.

The Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence also said that the article was published without proper authorization.
