CID Has ‘Every Right’ To Question Shiranthi: JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Police had ‘every right’ to question former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa.

Tracing the sequence of events, he said: “On that fateful night Wasim Thajudeen stops to get a bottle of water. There is a jeep following. What jeep is that? That is the jeep that was gifted to the Social Services Ministry by the Red Cross.

“Shiranthi Rajapaksa saw the jeep and asked Felix Perera who was the Minister of Social Services for it. There is a picture of him gifting it to her ‘Siriliya Saviya’. Who used that jeep? Yoshitha Rajapaksa,” he said.

“After Thajudeen’s murder, the jeep went missing. It was found in Habarana. Why was it in Habarana? To look at the elephants? We don’t know. The CID find it there. They find that it has been painted over three times.”

“Is it wrong to questions Shiranthi Rajapaksa” he asked, “in light of these events? Thajudeen was murdered a jeep was seen following him, the jeep was one that was acquired by Shiranthi Rajapaksa – she was called to make a statement relating to that – what’s wrong with that,” he asked.

The JVP leader said the CID had ‘every right’ to question former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa and referring to protests outside the CID said it was unfortunate that so many people crowded to her side calling her the ‘mother of the nation’, under these circumstances.
