Nanda Mallawaarachchi Summoned Before Court Over Upul Jayasooriya's Security

Secretary of the Ministry of Law and Order Major General (retd)Nanda Mallawaarachchi was ordered appear before the Colombo Chief Magistrate on Friday over security concerns raised by Bar Association President Upul Jayasooriya.

The Secretary of Law and Order ministry was ordered to appear before court after IGP N.K. Illangakoon stated that he had sought advice from the Secretary over providing security to the BASL president.

However, Colombo Chief Magistrate noted that if the Secretary of Ministry of Law and Order had taken any action in this regard, there was no need for him to appear before court.

Meanwhile, Senior DIG Anura Senanayake could not appear before the court today as he was abroad. He informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate over his inability to appear before court as he was abroad when the summons were issued.

The court issued summons after taking into consideration a motion filed by the Sri Lanka Bar Association. The BASL president has lodged a series of police complaints
