Namal Summoned Before Hambantota Police: Asked To Make Statement Relating To October 6 Protest

Hambantota district parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has been summoned before the Hambantota Police to make a statement relating to the October 6 protest.

On Friday (October 6), protesters including MP Namal Rajapaksa converged outside the Indian Consulate in Hambantota despite a court order preventing them.

Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse crowds; 28 protestors were injured in the resulting melee.

Three policemen also sustained injuries in the clash between Police and protestors.

Professor G.L. Peiris, MPs Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Sanath Nishantha and Mahindananda Aluthgamage were among those that participated in the protest.

Several other MPs including D. V. Chanaka, Prasanna Ranaweera and Major Ajith Prasanna have also been summoned before the Hambantota Police.
