Ruki Fernando And Fr. Praveen Released

Sri Lankan government released the two human rights activists namely Ruki Fernando and Father Praveen Mahesan who were earlier detained under the Prevention of Terrorism laws.

Police said the two activists were released early this morning. They were arrested in Kilinochchi recently soon after a meeting with war-affected families in the North.

Sri Lanka's Permission Mission to Geneva said yesterday that they were being questioned over their alleged links with a person named Gobi who was involved in smuggling and terrorist activities. 

Sri Lankan government came under immense pressure from various parties in the international community demanding their release.
