PM Appoints Committee Headed By Marapana To Decide The Fate Of UNP MPs Involved In Bond Fiasco

Issuing a special statement, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said he had appointed a committee headed by Minister Tilak Marapana to look into the report of the Presidential Commission on the bond issue. 

The committee, the statement said, would decide on the UNP MPs currently facing allegations over the bond fiasco. 

It also added that the UNP, as a party, fully cooperated with the Presidential Commission and supported the proceedings. It also said the party would also facilitate the implementation of its recommendations. 

The Prime Minister also promised to recover Rs. 9.2 billion rupees from the bank accounts of Perpetual Treasuries. 

"The expectation of of Good Governance, which the people of the country expressed through the January 08 mandate, cannot be fulfilled overnight, but we are heading towards it," the Prime Minister's statement said.
