Fake Letter Says Brigadier Priyanka Fernando To Be Court Martialed: Government Promises Police Action

February 08, 2018

Deputy Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva said the Police would take action against those circulated a fake letter with the signature of Minister Mangala Samaraweera apologizing to the British Tamil Forum over the controversy involving the Sri Lankan defence attache in London.

Interestingly, the letter has been addressed to a person by the name of T.R. Balu of the British Tamil Forum in the United Kingdom. Balu, however, is a Tamil Nadu politician representing the DMK Party.

The person who generated the letter seems to be unaware of the fact that Mangala Samaraweera in no longer the Foreign Minister. Although the letter carried the name and the signature of Samaraweera, he left the Foreign ministry over 6 months ago to become the Minister of Finance and Mass Media.

The fake letter written in poor English also says Brig. Priyanka Fernando, the Sri Lankan Defence Attache in London, would be court martialed over the incident.

"The Police will track down these criminals creating chaos just for local gov elections. They will be punished," De Silva said.
