No Confidence Motion Against PM May Lead To Dissolution Of Current Parliament

If Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe fails to survive the no-confidence motion, the UNP will support dissolution of the current Parliamnt, a high ranking party official said.

"The no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister is in fact a no-confidence motion against the government. So, if the party fails to pull it through, we will support immediate dissolution of Parliament," he added.

The Joint Opposition, he sad, had expressed its willingness to go for a Parliamentary election.

"Therefore, they too will fully support our attempt," he said.

The Joint Opposition is expected to present the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Wickremesinghe.

Apart from the Joint Opposition and the SLFP group supporting President Maithripala Sirisena, a group of UNP MPs are also expected to support the motion.
