Sri Lanka Introduces 1990 Ambulance Service To Key Tourist Destinations Across Island: Roll Out Starts In July

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority said the 1990 Ambulance service would be introduced to some key tourist destinations across the country this year.

"The tourist sites and the places where the ambulances will be located are as follows. Sigiriya - Habarana Police Station( 12km), Yala - Katharagama Police Station( 2.4 km), Ella - Ella Police Station (700m), Passikudha - Kalkudha Police Station (650m), Arugambay - Pottuvill Police Station (6 km)," the SLTDA, quoting Dumindra Ratnayaka, Advisor to 1990, said. 

He said the roll out would take place from July to December, 2018.

1990 is Sri Lanka's very first fully fledged free pre-hospital care ambulance service with state of the art fully equipped vehicles. 

It was introduced to Sri Lanka following a direct intervention by the Indian government.
