Journalist Mahesh Nissanka and his son who were remanded over an alleged assault, have been granted bail by the Mahara Magistrate this morning. 

The TV journalist and his son were arrested by the Kadawatha Police last week  in connection with an alleged assault on a person. 

The person who came under assault was admitted to hospital. 

He was identified as  an owner of a fitness centre in the Wattala area. 

Nissanka, in his statement to the Police , said he attacked the person as an act of self-defence as the latter attempted to abduct his son.
