Although Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Anura Senanayake told the courts that adequate steps had been taken to provide necessary security to him, it is not the real situation, says Bar Association of Sri Lanka President Upul Jayasuriya.

But he had asked for uniformed policemen, especially taking into account the threats to him from July 15.

He said that after he was followed by unidentified persons, the BASL Executive Committee had written to the police asking for police protection to him. He said that under a situation where a citizen’s life is threatened, they have the right to ask for police protection under Statute 22 of the Police Ordinance.

Senior DIG Anura Senanayake speaking before Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya said he would accept full responsibility for BASL President's security.
