President Maithripala Sirisena today rejected a proposal to impose a minimum age limit of 35 on Tuk Tuk drivers. 

The proposal was submitted to the Cabinet by Transport Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva. 

The proposal was the latest in a chain of actions to streamline the Tuk Tuk service in Sri Lanka. 

Finance and Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera on Monday a special regulatory commission on Tuk Tuks transporting passengers. 

The President rejected the proposal on the grounds that it would deprive a large section of the youth community of livelihood. 

However, a Minister who spoke to Asian Mirror after the Cabinet Meeting today said the decision to reject the proposal was an act of "political bungling."
