President Says He Wants To Increase Female Representation In Parliament To 60% To Improve Efficiency

President Maithripala Sirisena said Parliament should be an example of efficiency to the country.

"The efficiency of Parliament has an impact on the efficiency of the public service and when achieving the development targets the efficiency of all these sectors are important," the President said, addressing the inaugural ceremony of the EvalColombo2018 held in Colombo, today (17).

He also added the efficiency of Parliament isalso extemded to Advisory Committees, and it made a broad impact on the development of the country.

Sirisena also noted that attendance of MPs was major factor in maintaining efficiency in the House, also saying that the female representation in Parliament should be increased at least to 60%. 

That will, he said, increase efficiency in Parliamentary proceedings.

The Global Parliamentarians Forum for Evaluation together with EvalPartners, the Sri Lanka Parliamentarians Forum for Evaluation, Prime Minister’s Office of Sri Lanka, Parliament of Sri Lanka, and the Sri Lanka Evaluation Association hosted the EvalColombo2018, a three-day forum from 17th to 19th of September 2018 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, to promote demand and use of evaluation by parliamentarians through dialogue and exchange, generate innovative approaches to tackling them at a global level.
